a countenance, unforgettable

One of the good things about being in a MNC was that we could easily involve ourselves in some community work. MNCs today consider 'Community Involvement' as one of their listed goals. This not only helps the company build a more favorable image but also to use it's gains in a more responsible manner. Inturn every individual associated with the company gets his chance to contribute to the society without really having to go out of his way. One such opportunity we got was to celebrate Diwali at an orphanage in Pune. Volunteers were to organise competitions at the orphanage-school, distribute goodies and spend a day with the children. An enthusiastic set of us got together and made sure we make all the logistical arrangements in order for it to be a memorable day for the kids. The day went as planned or even better i must say.The drawing competition brought out some wonderful creations. Imaginations soared high and that is what we had wanted ! 'Rangolis' were drawn ab...

Analysis of the efficiency of a Dream

The Problem : Marvel and analyse how efficient things as virtual as dreams can get. Assumptions : 1. You dream when you are in a deep slumber 2. Sometimes dreams reflect your state of inertia ( with that i mean you want to stay in some previous condition of your life. You miss some part of your life so much that your inner self still wants to hang on to it. For instance, you are in a new place but you dream of your old home or you dumped your boyfriend but still dream of being together). Analysis and Discussion : With those assumptions, the efficiency of a dream can be thought of like this: Just imagine, you get up from a good night's sleep and feel like you visited your home town during the night (Brain argues - your home town is atleast 17hrs away by air!). You sip your coffee and feel like you smelt home food and mom-made dosa chutney a few minutes back (Brain argues- haven't met mom for months!). You feel like you just had a long conversation with an old friend in the colleg...

After a gap of two years, I am back in a classroom. I have been a terrible student most of my life (while in India). A classroom for me has been a place where usually i don't really know what's happening. Due to unavoidable circumstances (including day dreaming, imaginative choreography, chit chatting, flirting etc) I usually lose touch of what is happening in the class and then cause i anyway don't know what is happening, I make use of the invaluable time by continuing my valuable activities. i always pitied the fate of my lecturer though and by the semester end, my own !! But in the US (where i study now ) I cannot literally AFFORD to do any of the above. So, yeah i pay attention ! I realized it's not all that bad afterall . My paying attention phase had been going on well, until i faltered for just a few moments... My prof was explaining some funda of H2- O2 explosion limits. Apparently, if a mixture of H2 and O2 were in a room at 1 atmospheric pressure and 70 deg F...

the things i learnt from swati..

Image
In the one year nine months i spent knowing Swati, i learnt a lot. Enough things about life, that i wished i had learnt long back. Enough to look at life in the eye. We are completely different people. Swati will react. Instinctively. She'll immediately show if she she is happy, sad, jealous or anything. I won't. I would show a complacency in any situation. No one would know how sad, how happy, how grateful i am. They would probably just know that i am happy, sad or grateful ! She taught me to quantify my feelings.. to express my feelings clearly to people who matter. I think i seriously lost out on a lot of things because of my complacency. I lost out on people's reactions, affection, friendship, love towards me. I should have expressed myself, loud and clear.. that makes things simpler !! Swati enjoys when she enjoys. She lives life completely. I tried doing this as well and i felt so much lighter and happier! She taught me to 'connect' to people. Look at the thin...

d good things about america..

yeah, obviously there are a whole lot of good things about america . i believe it is the people of the country who truly determine it's outlook. america for instance is made of people who are very friendly and independent at the same time. americans accept the presence of each person around them and respect every individual uniformly. This is shown by very minute gestures such as the 'hi, how are you' they utter to perfect strangers but with perfect warmth. It's amazing the way they treat people. 'Thanks' and 'Sorry' come as often as ever but each time u are assured that they mean it, and that is amazing. but yes, they are so much on their own. walking, eating, reading, doing everything all by themselves. Independent is an understatement. This nature of the american lot has perhaps made them more tolerant to immigrants (except for when we begin threatening their jobs!), bringing about a great cultural mix in their society.Instead of complaining, the...

india, i miss you..

indeed india, i miss you. well, to start with, i miss your typically morning noises.. the bustle of households, the chatter of housewives, the business of house maids, 'back-up' music of neighbourhood cars, pitched calls of street hawkers, kick starts of 2-wheelers, school buses making their way through.. and repititively, the melody of MS's suprabhatam. i miss a day's omnipresent-naturally occuring blunders.. the overflow of garbage bins, tar roads punctuated by lawful dig ups, traffic junks, hunk-honks of auto rajas, fights for vacancies at bus foot boards, warning less electricity breaks, saying no to beggars, a single rain's flood warning .. and all the associated uncertainties.. i miss the stimuli to my senses... the vividity of feminine drapery .. colorfully spun sarees and flirtily favorable dupattas, aromas of samosa and chai, nostalgia of ameen sayani on AIR FM RAINBOW, taste of the temple's sacred water, sourness of roadside pani puri, freshness of ...
