Learnin not to ask for more

Today in the morning, one of the associates in my department called me for his birthday celebration. As he is an associate i had worked with during my project, i was happy to be present at the celebration. wished him warmly. he recently had told me that he had become a father, so was just thinking that it must be quite a happy atmosphere back home.
At 4 PM, while leaving, he came to wish me good bye. I casually asked him as to how he was going to celebrate the day at home.
his answer humbles me.
He said," आज मेरा जन्मदिन नहीं हैं.. मेरा जन्मदिन अप्रील में हैं."
I was rather confused and detecting that on my face, he continued,
" वो क्या हैं ना मेरे माथा पिता अनपढ़ थे.. और यह डेट मेरे स्चूल के teacher ने दर्ज किया हैं.. वो भी १९८० के बदले १९८१ लिख दिया हैं.."
and he smiled that smile of honesty.
i smiled too, my mind wondering how many such people in this world exist who don't even know the exact day of their birth. Ah! i just imagined myself there and knew i would be lost without having such a vital piece of jig-saw in the puzzle of life.
Yet, i think my associate friend is content knowing that this would not happen with his kid.
I convinced him ( though he needed none..) that it was a great idea to celebrate his birthday twice in the year!!

Aren't we just so lucky ppl????!!!! yet, we want to leave no opportunity that will get us recognized. that will get us more friends. more praises.
Learning not to ask for more..
