V-day & it's Very many VVays..
As i observed the happenings on yet another Valentine's day, it was interesting to note the very many opinions people had about this day. Every year, similar opinions are up in the air. This year , in India, the anti-heroes took centre stage and an unexpected set of events unfolded.
Yes, first the opinion of the fanatical few. The ram sene, shiv sainiks, bajrang dal and more of the lot. They are the special few who think they are upholding Indian culture by opposing the so called western influences. And their love for Indian culture literally explodes during valentine's day. So they go about rallying against public display of love, harassing young couples, beating up 'modern' women. With such unjustifiable acts of violence, they try to inculcate culture amongst Indians, and especially the women, in ONE day. The rest of the year, they prove their hypocrisy.
Thanks to the actions of the ram sene in Mangalore [the capitals avoided on purpose], we have heroes coming up in India, to show that truly, pyaar kiya tho darna kya. Yes, the opinion of the brave few. These people have adopted the Gandhigiri way to show that the sene can be outsmarted. There have been groups openly supporting the cause of love and lovers alike especially in the state of Karnataka. By painting Bangalore red and showering unaccounted hugs and kisses, they have shown that an emotion like love can indeed unite people against the whatever senas [ i think they add the name of a God/King to their sena stupidity, just to make sure they have some followers]! And youngsters around the globe gifted pink chaddis to their not-yet-so embarrassed sena brothers. All in all , it's been quite an eventful V-day for these heroes and their anti-s.
But in general too, people have their takes about V-day.
The oh-so-in-love few. These guys go all out celebrating. And why not bhai? Aren't we in this world to celebrate? well, let the reason be love! So these guys make sure they spend time with the special one, make sure they keep each other really really happy. Roses, candle lit dinners, chocolates and all the cliched romantic ploys deployed. They follow it to the V.
The oh-so-against-consumerism few. I have seen a lot of people complain about this. That V-day becomes a day to sell love. That people make money by selling articles made especially for this day. Yeah, you have a point but look at the bright side.. how much creativity flows out of all those pinky-pink stuff!:P Creativity or not, it definitely makes you not see pink for the next few days.
The oh-so-lost-few. Yeah, the ones who think they are a little lost on this day. Cause they are single and not so much in love! Some very positive minded may explore speed dating options while some may just spend the day in good old 'hope'.
The oh-so-sad-few. For them, the day is burdensome. Cause it reminds them of their past loves. They can get pretty nostalgic, drunken and morose. They will reminisce, forgive, forget, crib, sing, cry but not keep their mind off it !
The oh-so-not-bothered few. And there are always going to be people who are unaffected by a 'day' such as this or any other. They believe in carrying about their daily business as is and 'expressing' love is not their cup of tea.
The 0h-so-love-all few. Ah! I like these best. Who think it's not that bad an idea to just do a good deed or two in the name of St. Valentine. These guys make life for their friends, family and strangers a little special by a wish, a hug, a message.. could be anything and for anyone!! That's not too bad at all to keep yourself happy, by keeping others in tow..
Last, but not the least. The oh-so-non-opinionated few.. they are the classically boring ones.
and I Hope that's not you!

Mention other organizations that oppose Vday. There are the communists. There is the Islamic group in Kashmir(and other places too??) which is thoroughly anti Vday. Let us stop bothering about Political Correctness :)
